Off-duty security worker thrown out of hotel

AN OFF-duty security worker - who refused to leave a Gladstone hotel after drinking and playing the pokies - was told to "reconsider" his drinking habits as it could jeopardise his job.

Thon Magot (pictured) was fined $600 after he pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly at the Young Australian hotel on September 3, failing to leave licensed premises, and resisting being removed.

Prosecutor Mark Fenlon said police were called to the hotel at 2.25am and officers told Magot was intoxicated and abusive, yelling at staff after being denied bar service.

He had been told three times by security staff to leave the pokies area and resisted when they took him out onto the street.

Mr Fenlon said the security staff had been very concerned at Magot's efforts to overpower them.

Despite Magot saying he had not understood their attempts to remove him; Mr Fenlon said he was a security guard who worked at licensed venues in Gladstone.

He said Magot was intoxicated and acted belligerent toward police.

Lawyer, Jun Pepito, said Magot as a security officer "should have known better" than to behave that way.

Magistrate Jeffrey Clarke asked if he still had his security license; saying Magot was in court last year charged with public nuisance.

"You have got to realise that if you keep misbehaving you will lose your (security) licence," Mr Clarke said.

"I ask you to reconsider your drinking habits. It's got to stop."

As he pedalled away from the courthouse on his bicycle, Magot said he did not believe he would lose his job.
