Famous watering hole in Lockyer Valley gets gong

A QUINTESSENTIAL country watering hole in the Lockyer Valley has been named as one of the state's most outstanding pubs and hotels.

Porter's Plainland Hotel took out the Best Keno Facility Award at the Queensland Hotels Association 23rd annual Awards for Excellence.

The family-run and owned hotel, managed by third-generation hoteliers Michael and Shelley Porter, has been in the Porter family for just shy of 70 years.

The hotel will now progress to represent Queensland at the Australian Hotels Association National Awards for Excellence in 2016.

"We're absolutely delighted to be recognised as the best Keno venue in Queensland, as we always strive to give our Keno customers the best possible service and experience when they visit us," Mr Porter said.

"We'll continue to support the Keno brand and look forward to seeing the results after the recent Keno rebranding, which has given the game an exciting new look and feel."

QHA Chief Executive Justin O'Connor congratulated the Porter family, praising their hotel for its local flavor and customer-driven focus.

"Porter's Plainland Hotel is the quintessential country watering hole, located halfway Brisbane and Toowoomba in a strong growth area."

"Not only does Porter's run a great hotel, but their focus on promoting popular products, such as Keno, is consistently strong and in tune with the needs of their customers," he said.

"Like all Queensland hoteliers, they are delighted with the current rebranding and repositioning of the Keno product, which they are confident will enhance the customer experience and Keno turnover."

Mr O-Connor said a dozen of the top performing venues in the state were nominated in the Keno Facility category.

The honour was awarded to the venue that demonstrated the best Keno set-up and displays, sales performance, promotional activity and customer service.

Hotels large and small from all over Queensland participated in the 2015 awards program, which this year saw a record number of nominations.

The awards presentation was held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on Wednesday night.
