Chef delivers native meals

LOCAL chef Clayton Donovan has partnered with integratedliving to develop an indigenous meals program, designed to introduce Coffs locals to range of healthy, native meals.

Chef Donovan, host of ABC television program Wild Kitchen, has developed a number of recipes using beef, chicken, kangaroo and fish, as well as vegetarian options.

The meals use native Australian ingredients such as bush peppers, myrtles and relishes to add to the unique flavour options.

Intergratedliving's Bron McCrae, who initiated the program, said the meals brought something new to the market.

"The new meal offerings give our customers healthy, indigenous options to choose from.

"We are delighted to have Australia's only hatted indigenous chef, Clayton Donovan, to be part of our team."

As part of the program launch, students at participating local schools will prepare meals for elders during NAIDOC and Seniors weeks.

The students will prepare morning tea using one of Chef Donovan's recipes.

The meal program, which was developed with support from the Australian Government Department of Social Services, is expected to be available later this year.
