Cairns hotel turns pink for a day of festivities and fundraising

The Cape York Hotel was decked out in pink yesterday to raise awareness for breast cancer.

Managers Greg and Alison King said money raised on the day was donated to the McGrath Foundation – the charity devoted to placing breast care nurses in communities around Australia, and increasing breast awareness among young people.

“This is such a damn good thing to support,” Mr King said.

“We’ve tried to make it as pink as we can.”

Mrs King, who is a breast cancer survivor and free of the disease for almost 10 years, said raising awareness was something close to her heart.

“All the money we raise goes towards the research. Here, Adelaide, anywhere – more research is needed,” Mr King said.

“It’s such a wicked disease.”

Attendees were treated to live music by the Cairns Tropic Jazz Club.
