Food and drink bonanza at the Australian Open

The Australian Open next month will be putting on the best in tucker and drink.

As far as food goes, visitors to Melbourne Park will get the best that’s on offer.

At the Grand Slam Oval, they’ll be able to choose from great Greek food from top-ranking chef George Calombaris’s Gazi or they can go for Mexican dishes offered up by Matt Lane’s Mamasita.

And if they want something really different, there’s always the Rock Centre Café, which actually a pop-up all the way from the world-renowned Rockefeller Centre in New York.

And for those wanting nothing more than a burger at the free AO Festival at Birrarung Marr, they can get into Huxtaburger buns. Otherwise, there’s they can get Japanese food at Tokyo Tina, a souvlaki from Calombaris’s Jimmy Grants. Or if they want good old fashioned chips and bites, there’s always Mamasita’s new eatery, Hotel Jesus.

Other dining options include Tennis HQ, Garden Square Balcony and Hisense Arena. And those looking for $5 family friendly food with lots of room for the kids to play in, there’s The Ballpark.

Calombaris says the days of bad food at sporting events are long over.

“I know what it’s like when you go to sporting events, so gone are the days of soggy chips and inferior, bad fish,” Calombaris told the Herald Sun.

“People want to eat delicious food that’s restaurant quality, real, whole and delicious.”

There will be no shortage of booze either but the Australian Open will also provide the opportunity for people to get into Canadian Club, the Australian Open’s official spirit and exclusive dark spirit partner.

It will not only be setting up the Canadian Club Racquet Club located hillside at the Birrarung Marr festival. The Racquet Club will be expanding beyond Melbourne to The Bucket List Bondi, Cruise Bar Sydney and Sandstone Point Hotel QLD.
