Parramatta’s new eateries

Parramatta is now turning itself into the spot for food lovers with a bunch of new diners.

All of these will transform Western Sydney’s CBD.

Restaurant search site Zomato has data showing Parramatta is now one of Sydney’s fastest-growing zones when it comes to new restaurants.

It has the fifth-highest traffic zone, just behind the CBD, Surry Hills, Chinatown and Newtown.

One of the new spots is Alex & Co in Church Street.

The place is a cafe, bar and restaurant venture and open for business after a $2.5 million fit out.

Executive chef Kyle Quy says the area is heading for big growth.

“Parramatta is about to boom,” Quy told the Daily Telegraph. “It had been meant to happen for a long time, but restaurants pop up and no one really follows through.

“I want to be the one to kick it off.”

The ex NOLA chef says he will be bringing a feel to the restaurant that is usually found in the city.

“We will open the kind of restaurant diners expect in the city and show them you can have good food without travelling for it,” he says. “Parramatta is the new Melbourne. Once all these places start coming up they’ll all be full at night because I think people out here are really waiting for this,” he told the newspaper.

And he’s done a lot of work looking into the demographic for his restaurant.

“I did a lot of research on what’s around and of 40-50 restaurants, all except two are ethnic restaurants — Asian, Greek, Lebanese — so we are doing what isn’t in Parramatta,” he says. “There’s no real modern Australian place, a middle-of-the-road restaurant that’s not Italian and doesn’t swing towards French.”

Other eateries in Parramatta are:

  • HUSK & VINE, Macquarie St
  • UNCLE KURT’S, Horwood Place
  • LIL MISS COLLINS, Wentworth St
  • BAY VISTA DESSERT BAR, Church St
  • THE GINGER TIGER, George St
  • JAMIE’S ITALIAN, Centenary Square
  • BURGER PROJECT, Marsden St
