Kid critic Tane Davis puts eateries on notice with his foodie blog

Meet Tane Davis, the pint-sized food critic set to shake up Brisbane's restaurant scene.

The nine-year-old foodie, who fancies himself as a mini Matt Preston, last week launched his blog, Tane's Tucker.

He'll review some of the city's top eateries and put restaurants on notice if they need to step up their game when it comes to their kids' menus.

"I'm writing it for the kids and I'm also writing it for parents so they know what other options there are other than KFC and Macca's," he said.

"Some kids never get to try gourmet food."

His debut review last week awarded Eagle St Pier's Bavarian Bier Cafe a solid 8 out of 10, giving praise for its apple juice but shaving off points for the Swiss schnitzel.

Tane said kids needed to experiment more with food from the adult menu, and restaurants needed to put in a bit more effort, replacing the usual spaghetti, fish and chips and chicken nuggets on the children's menu with real food.

Tane plans to review some of the city's best restaurants, and has already eaten at some of the biggest names in town with his dad.

"I really like Il Centro and at Sono we got to grill our own wagyu. That was cool," he said.

Proud dad Darren Davis, a food and wine buff, agreed.

"A lot of kids are interested in food, they're just not getting that opportunity in restaurants," he said.
