Jamie Oliver’s Italian Sydney uses frozen pasta

Jamie Oliver’s Italian restaurant in Sydney states on its menu that it makes “fresh pasta, right here every day.”

But now, a customer has found out that’s not the case, and made sure everyone knows it.

The customer dining at the Italian eatery in Pitt Street Sydney noticed a chef there using packet gnocchi.

And so the eagle-eyed customer snapped a photo of it.

“You go to Jamie's Italian expecting fresh, authentic Italian and I was hanging out to try this place,” the customer told the Daily Mail.

“Why pay money for something you can do yourself at home?”

The restaurant responded accordingly, confirming the ingredient choice.

“It is a traditional Italian gnocchi made with potatoes and flour that we import through Basile, a 100% Australian owned company that prides itself on sourcing Italy’s finest traditional, regional and organic produce,” the restaurant told the Daily Mail.

“It’s light and fluffy, and ensures quality and consistency across our six restaurants.”

Jamie’s chain is now facing financial difficulties with revelations that the company is now sitting on more than $125 million (£71.5 million) in debts.

With his overseas eateries now hanging in the balance, the TV chef has been forced to close a number of his under-performing restaurants in Britain

On Friday, he announced that twelve of his restaurants will close as part of a company restructure, leaving the group with 25 restaurants in the UK and 28 overseas.

“We are pleased to have received the overwhelming support from our creditors for our proposal to reshape Jamie's Italian restaurants,” the group said in its statement.

“We have a strong brand and are focused on continuing to deliver the levels of service, taste and the experience our loyal customers deserve.”

There are six Jamies Italian locations in Australia: Sydney, Perth, Canberra, Adelaide and Brisbane.
