$200 million Landbridge Hotel is coming

A proposed $200 million waterfront luxury hotel in Darwin is on the way.

Developers are confident the project is on track.

They are saying work on the project will start by the end of the dry season.

The company behind the hotel, Chinese-owned Landbridge, has already released plans for public comment.

It has to through the planning process which means all submissions from the public have to be in by June 8. That’s the closing date for submissions.

And then, the plans will be submitted to the Development Consent Authority.

The company managing the process for Landbridge is Elton.

And according to an Elton spokeswoman, they are expecting the project would start moving forward by September. That is, if everything goes to plan.

“If planning approval is received in July, we will be looking to complete the design ready to begin the tender process towards the end of quarter three, and we will hold industry briefings some time prior to this,” the spokeswoman told the NT News.

“We expect to appoint a contractor for an enabling package, and begin works later in the dry season.”

Of course, there are still some issue still to resolve.

For example, there have as yet been no formal discussions with the builders.

That still has to take place.

“No formal discussions have yet taken place, these will commence with the industry briefing session,” the spokeswoman told the NT News.

“We have however had interest from a number of contractors, and we have held informal discussions with those who have wanted to discuss the project.

“Contractors are able to register their interest, either through the hotel website or via the ICN Gateway.”

The hotel itself, when it finally opens, will be run by Westin.

It will be located on land next to to the cruise ship terminal, which is also operated by Landbridge. The company has a 99-year lease of Darwin Port.

A $ 15 million skybridge will link the hotel to the city.
