Merger talks between Uber and Deliveroo
Reports from the US suggest that Uber is in the early stages of takeover talks with Deliveroo in a deal worth several billion dollars.
However, Bloomberg reports that historically Deliveroo’s management has never been keen on the idea of giving up their independence.
If such a merger took place it would have strong ramifications for Australia, which only has three main players in the food delivery industry since the recent departure of Foodora - Menulog and EatNow, Deliveroo, and UberEATS.
Uber chief executive officer Dara Khosrowshahi recently stated that “UberEats is absolutely exploding” and growing at a rate of 200 per cent.
“I think we’ll be the largest food delivery company in the world this year,” Khosrowshahi said earlier this year.
