Last drinks for another Adelaide pub

The Australian Hotels Association says another Adelaide hotel has been forced to shut its doors due to financial problems.

The Crown and Sceptre Hotel in King William Street in the city has gone into liquidation.

Association general manager Ian Horne said about half a dozen Adelaide hotels had closed in the past three months.

"Banks are getting tighter in terms of what they're prepared for operators to continue to borrow or owe," he said.

"We're seeing the wage component is a major cost component of any business in hospitality.

"Rates and taxes are a burden ... with five or six venues in the last three months it's naive to think there's not going to be more over the next three to six months."

He said it was also evidence of consumers' reluctance to spend.
