Rooftop bar and restaurant to take-off at Melbourne Airport

A $500 million transformation of Melbourne Airport is set to include a rooftop piazza with a new restaurant and bar.

The proposed upgrade of the four-storey Terminal 2 includes 30 new shops, restaurants and cafes, five new airline lounges and a mezzanine area with diner and bar. A new hotel and public swimming pool are also planned for the airport precinct.

Airport retail chief Andrew Gardiner said the T2 expansion replicates the rooftop bars located “in our famous CBD laneways”.

“It’s an exciting concept, and one that we feel will really bring Melbourne’s culture to life at the airport,” he told the Herald Sun.

A $150 million 464-room hotel to be built in partnership with the Accor group and branded as Novotel and Ibis is expected to begin construction in early 2019 near T4, in the airport’s The Hive precinct.
