Iconic outback pub sells with crocs included

A remote pub 500 kilometres south of Darwin sold recently with three crocodiles and a couple of emus as part of the package.

The Larrimah Wayside Inn, also known as the Pink Panther pub, is one of 10 designated unique outback pubs of Australia, according to auctioneer David Loveridge.

The outback hotel was sold on a "what you see is what you get" basis, and also came with a plethora of old beer posters, t-shirts and Akubras hanging over doorways, along with rusted bits of farming machinery and vintage paintings of rodeos, farm life and native animals.

Publican Barry Sharpe said he always had an interest in animals.

"I don't know if it really added anything to the pub,” he said. “It was open to the public to view but it was something I wanted to do, so I did it."

The menagerie at the back also includes sugar gliders and about 600 birds.

The pub also acts as the Greyhound Bus stop, and as a central post office for those living on the surrounding stations.
