Tayim adds some spice to The Rocks

New Sydney restaurant Tayim is bringing a mix of modern and traditional Middle Eastern cuisine to the Rocks when it opens in December.

Previously home to Scarlett Restaurant, the dramatic redesign of Tayim by local architects Welsh + Major includes an expansion of the former venue into a larger bar and dining area.

In keeping with the historical features of the heritage building, the sandstone walls have been restored, while inside are contemporary furnishings featuring lightened marble, wood, and bespoke wall coverings. Central to the dining area is an open grill with a communal table, leading to an alfresco dining balcony, a new bar and private dining room.

Overseen by head chef Ran Kimelfeld (ex-Nour), the Middle-Eastern inspired menu focuses on share plates cooked using traditional methods on the open grill. Signatures include, grilled sardine Shakshuka, summer mushroom Borekas and grilled chicken Masahan.

Tayim's wine and cocktail offering has been developed by general manager Reuvin Lim, who was previously part of the opening team at numerous high-profile restaurants across Sydney, including; Sake, Gowings Bar and Grill, Cho Cho San, and most recently Tequila Mockingbird.

Tayim is also home to sister-venue Tayim Deli which serves a take-away menu featuring Middle Eastern-inspired street food for breakfast and lunch.
