Crowne Plaza Melbourne commits 40,000 meals to charity

Crowne Plaza Melbourne has committed to providing 40,000 meals to Fareshare and is inviting guests to make a small donation during their stay in order to reach their goal of providing 100,000 meals to locals in need.

Having recognised the need to support frontline food relief charities and the growing demand for emergency food, Crowne Plaza Melbourne is asking guests to donate 50 cents as part of the hotel booking to help feed those in need. Guests can also make a small donation at one the hotel’s restaurant outlets and upon check-out.

Fareshare works in conjunction with The Feed Melbourne Appeal, and takes surplus food that would otherwise go to waste and uses it to cook more than one million free, nutritious meals a year in one of Australia’s largest charity kitchens.

Crowne Plaza Melbourne head chef Warren Finger and his culinary team have been volunteering in the Fareshare kitchen each fortnight and will continue to do so as part of the hotel’s ongoing commitment to Fareshare and the Feed Melbourne Appeal.

“This corporate partnership is a way for the hotel to support the climbing poverty rates in Melbourne in a tangible way,” said David Mansfield, area general manager – Melbourne & Canberra for InterContinental Hotels Group.

“We believe everyone has the right to nutritious food, and we ask that our loyal guests stand with us and make the small donation of 50 cents at the hotel front desk, restaurant, or through the meeting and event booking process to reach our goal of providing 100,000 meals to Melbournians in need.”
