New seafood restaurant on Sorrento’s beachfront

Local developer Stellar has partnered with hotelier Julian Gerner to open a new beachside restaurant on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula.

Gerner, who is behind Melbourne's Prince of Wales, Middle Park Hotel and Royal Saxon, moved to the Sorrento in 2013. He opened seafood restaurant Morgan’s Beach Shack last month in what was formerly another iteration of the same name (and before that the Sorrento Seafood Tavern). The new casual dining venue also features a wine store and beer bar.

Dave Stewart, owner of Moonee Ponds' Ascot Food Store, and Paul Tyas, head chef of St Kilda’s Grosvenor Hotel, have worked closely with Morgan's new head chef Joseph Spiteri to design the food offering which includes items such as Cape Cod-inspired lobster roll; Ora salmon with new season potato, sugar snaps and mustard dressing; and mussels and prawn linguini.

“Morgan’s is about showcasing the peninsula lifestyle with its vibrant atmosphere, quality produce, considered menu and unparalleled location,” said general manager Duncan Thomson.
