Sydney’s Argyle and The Coast Hotel in Coffs Harbour top the list of most violent venues in NSW

Two venues have been named as ‘Category 1’ on the NSW Government’s half-yearly violent venues list.

Twelve licensed venues across NSW have been named on the list, with The Argyle in Sydney and The Coast Hotel in Coffs Harbour the only venues named as “category 1” with 25 and 19 violent incidents respectively in the past 12 months.

Ten venues across Sydney and NSW were placed on the “category 2” list with Ivy in the CBD dropping from level 1 to 2 with a recorded 17 incidents. Four venues have been removed from the list.

Liquor and Gaming NSW Deputy Secretary Paul Newson said the drop in the number of venues on the list confirms alcohol-related violence is trending down.

“It’s pleasing that several previously named venues have improved their safety record,” Newson told The Daily Telegraph.

“There has been an overall fall of 86 per cent in the number of violent incidents at listed venues — from 1270 to 183 [since 2008],” he said.

“These results show that the vast majority of venues across NSW do the right thing and provide a safe environment for people to enjoy a night out.”
