Pub argument escalates to shots being fired

What started out as an argument over a pub meal being sent to the wrong table escalated to a gun fight, according to WA Police.

WA Police allege that an altercation started at a pub in Gibson near Esperance on Friday night ended up with two groups of angry diners arming themselves with a shotgun and a rifle from nearby farms before meeting at another location away from the pub to settle their differences.

The pub where the alleged incident took place had only just re-opened after being used as one of the backdrops in the film adaptation of Tim Winton's novel Dirt Music.

"There were more arguments, which then ended up on social media that were basically, 'Let's meet at a pre-determined spot and we can sort this out'," said Sergeant Todd Pender.

Sergeant Pender said during the argument shots were fired and then a fight broke out, although no-one was harmed by the firearms. Two men have been charged with going armed while intoxicated and discharging a firearm.
