Wild weekend in Victorian pubs leaves one dead and several arrested

It has been a rough weekend for Victorian pubs, with separate incidents leaving one man dead and several in police custody.

A fight between two local men in Swan Hill four hours’ north-west of Melbourne resulted in a 20-year-old man dying at the scene from head injuries.

A 40-year-old man was taken into custody, but later released pending further investigation by police.

The Commercial Hotel was forced to cease trading after the fight that night and the street was subsequently closed through the day.

Another altercation at Seagulls Nest Club in Newport saw several men spilling onto the pavement, where a 44-year-old man was knocked unconscious.

Staff and patrons attempted to move the fight out of the venue, with glasses and chairs reportedly thrown by other perpetrators.

A 48-year-old from Braybrook and another man in his 40s are in custody in relation to assault charges.
