Chinese restaurant with 'racist' menu closes down

A New Zealand restaurant that caused controversy with its menu that appeared to mock Chinese pronunciation of English words has shut its doors.

Bamboozle, in Christchurch, closed down on Saturday citing “overwhelming” challenges. In a Facebook post the owner told his followers the challenges facing the restaurant were “simply overwhelming”.

Whether those challenges included the restaurant’s decision to keep dishes such as 'chirri an garrik prawn dumpring', 'suk sum teet' and 'luff'u long time phat Thai' on the menu despite huge critisicm is unclear.

“Pretty much every one of our customers enjoys the written menu as part of their overall experience and often express disappointment when items are removed with seasonal menu changes,” owner Phillip Kraal previously told NZME.
