New Sydney restaurant accused of ‘mirroring’ a well-known rival
Newtown restaurant The Italian Bowl has taken to social media to distance themselves from a new restaurant in Belmore that it claims has copied both their concept and menu.
It doesn’t help that the staff behind new restaurant Pasta La Vista used to work for The Italian Bowl.
"These cooks started off washing dishes and have been taught everything they know about cooking from the owners of The Italian Bowl," they said in a Facebook post.
“With no shame, its owners have straight out replicated The Italian Bowl's concept, menu, recipes, plate presentations, up-selling ideas and even table wear."
Speaking to The Sydney Morning Herald, The Italian Bowl co-owner Alexi Spyridis said other staff that left to start their own businesses had always "done their own twist".
"It wouldn't matter if they opened up an Italian restaurant and made it their own but they have made it into what we are, and are trying to feed off our concept," he said, adding that they "just mirrored everything".
