Diners at GOMA Restaurant to sit on art work

A restaurant in Brisbane has brought in art work diners can sit on.

Jason Bird, co-founder and creative director of Brisbane-based design studio Luxxbox, is behind the GOMA Chair which is now in the GOMA Restaurant for use by diners.

“The GOMA Chair has really assisted us in creating an inviting sense of place,” executive chef Doug Innes-Will told the Courier Mail. “It’s a unique and thoughtful design which adds to the overall dining experience offered in GOMA Restaurant and complements our ethos and support for Queensland.”

Speaking to the Courier Mail, Bird says the final design for the chair was the result of a “great collaborative project with QAGOMA”.

“It’s resulted in a quintessentially Queensland product from material and creative design through to manufacture and installation,” he said.

“We had many meetings to determine the needs of the GOMA Restaurant and its clientele, to then incorporate these requirements into the design.

“While the chair may look like a simple timber form, its complexity lies in ensuring it offers durational comfort to the diner, its ability to withstand commercial use and foremost its practicality. This has all been channelled into a very considered design process.”
