‘Abusive vegan activists’ shut down Gippsland café

A café in Victoria’s Gippsland region has closed after being subjected to what the owners say was “nearly four months of constant harassment, vile statements and abuse” by vegan activists.

Gippy Goat Café owners John Gommans and Penny Gandar made a post on the café’s Facebook page announcing the closure.

“Our staff have been subjected to daily threats and harassment by phone, and we cannot in good conscience ask them to continue working under such a condition,” the statement read.

The owners also said that the café’s social media and review sites had been targeted by false information and artificially poor ratings.

Animal rights activists stole three goats and a lamb from the farm late last year. The owners say their farm would continue to run but would no longer be open to the public.

Vegan group Aussie Farms have ramped up their protests recently, culminating in a national day of protest that saw a group of protestors taking over the intersection of Flinders and Swanston Streets.
