Final curtain for Perth’s Laneway Lounge

Perth jazz club Laneway Lounge has closed unexpectedly leaving an unpaid tab of thousands of dollars to musicians and suppliers.

The venue launched in 2013, but changed hands just 18 months ago, with Jagirkumar Patel the sole director and 30 per cent shareholder of Laneway Lounge.

Varun Rajan is the company secretary and his wife Mariam Thomas is a 50 per cent shareholder in the company which has total shares valued at over $2 million. Ajaykumar Kalidas Patel owns 20 per cent of the company.

Creditors are currently in the courts pursuing No Black Tie Pty Ltd, the company behind the venue. Beverage supplier Liquid Mix (WA) is owed $11,871 for the sale of goods and services, while Perth jazz singer Brenda Lee is yet to be paid a total of $2709 for her performances. It is believed she is just one of 30 musicians who have not received payment for their services.
