Perth restaurant takes to GoFundMe to pay debts after closure

A restaurant in East Perth is looking for help from the public to pay its debts after closing down.

Blaming an “overseas greedy landlord” for having to close their doors suddenly last week, the owners of Co-Op Dining, Kelli and Kiren Mainwaring, have posted a GoFundMe page to help pay their suppliers and staff.

“It’s with sadness that we have had to close our lifelong dream of running a restaurant,” the page reads.

“With the economic change in Western Australia and an overseas greedy landlord, we have had to vacate our restaurant unexpectedly and prematurely.

“Our main concern is to see that our devoted staff and supportive suppliers get paid. We have done our best to pay what we can before the negotiations failed.

“We have exhausted all solutions. We will be back!!!”

The couple have owned the restaurant since 2012, and previously owned Dear Friends in Caversham.

However, the couple’s reliance on public funds has attracted criticism, with one online critic writing: “…you’ve taken the revenue pay your debts”.
