Time right for Mr. Wong

Merivale's latest restaurant Mr. Wong, a Cantonese-style restaurant, opens its doors on Friday 10 August and brings the tally of restaurants to open during 2012 for the group to three.

The two-level, 240 seat restaurant is located in Bridge Lane and will serve traditional and modern Cantonese for lunch and dinner until 2am.

Set within the old Tank Nightclub, Mr. Wong embodies the elegance of 1930s Shanghai with a contemporary twist.

Colonial furnishings, timber floors with tiled inlay, bamboo framed French woven chairs and slow turning ceiling fans all paying homage to the classic influences from the era.

Dan Hong (Ms.G’s, El Loco) and Jowett Yu (Ms.G’s) lead the brigade in the kitchen while Eric Koh (Hakkasan, London) is presiding over the Dim Sum Bar.

The trio have spent the past six months developing the menu - inspired by their individual experiences of growing up in Asia.

Expect dishes like Chinese roasted duck, faux shark fin soup and abalone served steamboat style - all with Hong and Yu’s unique take on flavours and presentation - as well as a stellar dim sum selection created by Koh.
