Korean restaurant opens at Wollongong Hellenic Club

Korean buffet restaurant 'BBQ Town' has opened at Wollongong Hellenic Club.

'BBQ Town managing director Minwoo Choi said their Korean barbecue, or gogi gui, had been a hit with patrons so far.

"It's time for Wollongong people to be exposed to one of the global trends - Korean barbecue," he told the Illawarra Mercury.

"Korean barbecue is very popular in Sydney.

"It's a global trend, and we wanted to bring a high-quality Korean barbecue to the people in Wollongong.”

The menu features hot and cold dishes, fresh meats, as well as seafood options and salads.

"It's a barbecue restaurant, but it's not an à la carte,” he said. “It's a buffet, but we don't provide food at the buffet level. We provide a very good quality level of the meat."

Choi said diners in Wollongong were looking for more choice, even if some Hellenic Club patrons were surprised to find a Korean restaurant in the venue.

"Some of the customers are just curious... They pass by and simply walk in, and a lot of them make a booking,” he said.

"In Wollongong, we have a limited number of restaurants, so people I think are getting sick and tired of eating the same food.”
