Melbourne pizzeria scoops title for second year

Brunswick pizzeria 400 Gradi has been crowned Best Pizzeria in Oceania for the second time in the 50 Top Pizza awards in Naples, Italy.

Owner Johnny di Francesco’s 400 Gradi was just one of several Melbourne restaurants in the top five.

In 2014, the pizzeria also beat 600 other competitors from 35 countries to be named best pizza in the world at the Campionato Mondiale Della Pizza (Pizza World Championship) in Parma, Italy.

Di Francesco said he was happy to put Australia “back on the map again” for the third time.

He said that he entered the competitions to let people know that Australia “has amazing products and amazing chefs”.

“We’re so far away from the rest of the world but we’re creating world-class products and world-class restaurants,” he said.

Other Melbourne restaurants in the top ten were +39 Pizzeria, DOC, SPQR Pizza and Woodstock Pizzecheria. Other Australian restaurants in the top 10 were Gigi’s Pizzeria and Rosso Antico in Sydney, Pizzeria Violetta in Brisbane and the Dough Room in Perth.
