Historic outback pub to get $50k refurb from Airbnb

The Imperial Hotel in Ravenswood, an outback town in north Queensland, have scored $50,000 from Airbnb to revamp their pub.

The pub won the state’s Airbnb's Country Pub Project, with the money looking to set to keep the historic pub going for a long time yet.

Owners John and Diane Schluter said the pub’s 118-year-long history attracts patrons from all over the world.

"A lot of our visitors come here for a cultural experience, and they come from all over the world," John Schluter told 9News.

"The main thing for modern people is just to see how we lived and how our ancestors lived. They love to see the ornate kind of woodwork that's in the place and the way it's structured and how we lived."

They couple, who have been running the hotel for two decades, say they will use the money to give the aging hotel a new lease of life.

"Mainly upstairs for the accommodation and little things that you just can't afford to pay for," Schluter Diane said.
