Winners announced for the Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Awards 2020

Attica has been crowned Restaurant of the year and the Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Awards 2020.

Ben Shewry's award-winning restaurant in Ripponlea has been evolving since it opened more than a decade ago, according to Gourmet Traveller, saying “the evolution has become bolder and more experimental”.

Paul Carmichael from Momofuku Seiobo in Sydney was named Chef of the Year, with Gourmet Traveller saying he built a menu “that spoke both to his roots and to the place he came to call his home”.

New Restaurant of the Year went to Melbourne’s Di Stasio Città, the new venture from restaurateur Rinaldo Di Stasio, which also scooped Best Design.

Alanna Sapwell, from Brisbane’s Arc Dining, was named Best New Talent after heading to Howard Smith Wharves' flagship venue in February.

Dan Hunter’s much acclaimed Brae in Birregurra was named Regional Restaurant of the Year, while Wines of While in Perth scooped Bar of the Year just a year after opening.

Kylie Kwong was honoured with an Outstanding Contribution to Hospitality award. Leanne Altmann from McConnell was named Sommelier of the Year; Mary's Underground in Sydney won Wine List of the Year; Joanna Smith from Igni was named Maître d’ of the Year; and Orana in Adelaide won the award for Sustainability and Innovation.
