Hahndorf event venue closes overnight

The Seasonal Garden Cafe at the Adelaide Hills has closed suddenly leaving people scrambling to find a new wedding venue and potentially thousands of dollars out of pocket.

Owner Silvia Hart has been embroiled in financial problems including legal action to wind up an affiliated company over an unpaid bill and separate bankruptcy action.

Hart’s company Maerhuev Pty Ltd was wound up last month after it failed to settle a $55,000 fruit and vegetable bill, but she maintained it would not affect the Hahndorf café.

According to a report in The Advertiser, at least nine weddings were booked for between October to mid-May, with couples paying deposits of between $3000 and $4000.

In addition to the closure, police were called to the café on Monday after reports of light poles being cut down and trees and fixtures torn from a shared garden without authority of the landlord.

It was reported that Hart had told a local builder to remove the lights, fountain and “as much of the garden” as possible.
