New build Hilton for Karratha CBD gets greenlight

The construction of the Hilton Garden Inn at The Quarter in Karratha’s CBD is set to begin before Christmas after being given the greenlight from the State’s regional development authority.

Construction of the 100-room hotel has been delayed by almost a year following complications with the sale of the land.

Property developer Pacifica Developments still needs to finalise the design and select a builder but is confident construction would start by the end of the year.

“It’s just a matter of how dramatic that construction will look,” Pacifica director John Zendler told The West Australian.

“There’s large elements of the building, which will be built off site to try and mitigate the impact on the town, which means we can actually get on-site a little bit later.

“We want the construction to have a minimal impact, where we don’t have to barricade off the whole site too early, so people can enjoy the green space for as long as possible.”

A City spokesman said it was looking forward to the development further activating Karratha’s city centre.

The hotel is expected to open by the end of 2020.
