Patron injured in crowd surfing incident launches legal action against Melbourne pub

A music fan who was injured in a crowd surfing incident is suing the Melbourne venue the incident the occurred in.

Anthony Robinson has launched legal action against Richmond’s Corner Hotel after suffering spinal injuries caused when another music fan landed on him after jumping off the stage into the crowd.

The incident happened at a performance by American punk rock band The Bronx in October 2017.

Robinson is suing the venue as well as the security company, Aztech Security, working at the gig, saying both parties were negligent in allowing the patron and the lead singer to stage dive.

He also claims the pub failed to hire enough security staff, with his lawyer Dimi Ioannou, from Maurice Blackburn, saying band venues had a responsibility to ensure patron safety.

“Anthony’s injury was entirely avoidable and has had devastating effect on him and those around him,” Ioannou told the Herald Sun.

“A culture of reckless behaviour towards patrons is not acceptable. Anthony did not deserve to be crushed to the ground and we want to make sure that something like this never happens again.”
