Sydney’s Nomad to pop-up in the former Longrain site

Nomad in Surry Hills will make a temporary move to a nearby site recently vacated by Longrain for Orana's Sydney pop-up.

The restaurant’s decision to relocate follows a fire that started in the exhaust system of the ground-floor restaurant and burnt through the ceiling causing extensive damage.

The move follows a meeting between Head chef Jacqui Challinor and Orana's Jock Zonfrillo, who suggested the idea.

The temporary venue will be given a quick spruce up, but the biggest challenge will be the absence of wood-fire cooking facilities.

"The fire is the heart of our kitchen at Foster Street,” he told the Herald Sun. “We're still going to be bopping out tasty food, there's not going to be any changes with that."

Challinor says the seeing the damage caused by the fire was “really heartbreaking".

"We've all been sitting on our hands waiting for something to do and I think as a person who's used to running around and being busy all the time it's been quite difficult," he said. "It's definitely a shining beacon in what's been a really average few weeks

The pop-up venue is slated to open on November 1.
