Solotel Group pulls the plug on Parramatta restaurant Chophouse

Chophouse Parramatta is closing on December 21 after a little more than a year in operation.

Matt Moran and Solotel Group brought their successful CBD based Chophouse to the west 14 months ago. But the Group’s hopes for their only western Sydney restaurant “hasn’t quite panned out as we had planned”.

“Following the success of the Chophouse brand in Sydney’s CBD, we were excited about bringing the concept to Parramatta,” Solotel CEO Justine Baker told the Daily Telegraph.

“Unfortunately, it hasn’t quite panned out as we had planned and now, we think the best way forward for the Chophouse brand is for us to focus on the CBD venue.”

Solotel still has an interest in Parramatta with the Albion Hotel.

David Borger, executive director of the Western Sydney Business Chamber, said operators needed to realise that Parramatta and the Sydney CBD were very different markets.

“The challenge for restaurateurs is to understand the Parramatta market and to get their offering right,” he told the Daily Telegraph.

“We’ve seen a number of transplants from the Sydney CBD not make it in Parramatta and that would suggest that there is a unique community that needs more attention than assuming what’s popular in the east will work in the west.”
