Police hunt café arsonist who set his own arm on fire

The Victorian Police are searching for two men who broke into a cafe in Melbourne's east and set it on fire earlier this year.

The two masked men broke into The Moo Wine cafe at Melbourne’s Mooroolbark, about 2.30am on July 1.

Caught on CCTV, one of the bumbling arsonist’s set fire to his own arm while trying to burn down a cafe with his accomplice. The two men then spread an accelerant through the cafe before setting the fuel alight.

It is believed the duo escaped in a white Toyota Celica they had stolen earlier. The vehicle was found later burnt out at Wantirna South.

This is the first break-in the café has ever had over the 16 years Martin Shaw has owned Moo Wine.

“It's a family-owned business, in a family community,” Shaw told The Herald Sun.

“I don't think there isn't anyone who hasn't had a drink at The Moo.”

Yarra Ranges police detective Senior Constable Michael Potter described the two men as “amateurish” and has called on the public to help them identify the duo.
