Murdered Adelaide chef court case proving ‘complicated’ for prosecutor

A court has heard how an Adelaide chef was stabbed 80 times by her murderer.

The details were part of SA Police’s investigation into the death of chef and restaurant worker Kim Chau, who they allege was murdered inside a house on Sturt St by 21-year-old Numan Mohammed.

Prosecutor John Mattner has asked the Adelaide Magistrates Court for a seven-month adjournment due to “unexplained” results from forensic experts.

“The victim was stabbed 80 times … through blood spatter analysis, the accused’s DNA has been identified as has that of the victim,” he said in a story in The Advertiser.

“The crime scene was cleaned up afterwards … forensics officers report there have been ‘unexplained interpretations’ in the forensics taken from the scene.”

Police are now sifting through 1000 hours of CCTV footage to piece together the accused’s movements in addition to 52 statements from potential witnesses.

“He can be seen at the scene prior to the murder, he then goes around the back of the house, and is then seen driving the victim’s vehicle,” Mattner said.

Magistrate Simon Smart said police could have five months to prepare and remanded Mohammed in custody.
