Locals to rebuild outback pub after fire

A town of only nine residents in central Queensland will rebuild its only pub after it was burnt down last year.

The Muckadilla Hotel and Pub burnt to the ground in August last year, marking the third time in 108 years.

Local couple Christy and Marty Coomber decided to buy the ruined pub two days after, vowing to rebuild it.

The couple have now revealed their plans which include a new coffee shop, pool and six cabins for overnight stays. It will also be fire retardant.

“It was just a nice, friendly, casual, ‘kick your boots off if they’re muddy, keep them on if they’re dusty’ type of pub,” Christy Coomber told The Courier Mail.

“And the new pub is going to be like that too.”

The couple expect the new pub to be open by November.
