Respected Queensland chef passes away suddenly at home

The former head chef of an award-winning Queensland seafood restaurant has passed away suddenly at his Brisbane home.

Fifty-year-old Mark Maric died from a heart attack at home on Monday.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, his son Anthony Maric said his father had just fallen asleep when he suffered a heart attack.

“I had just sat down to eat dinner and I heard a bad sound from him on the couch, a bad exhale, and then he went purple in the face straight away,” he said.

Paramedics spent 40 minutes trying to revive the father of four, but he couldn't be saved.

Maric headed the kitchen at The Lure when it won Queensland's best seafood restaurant in 2006.

He also worked as a head chef at respected Brisbane restaurants including Cloudland and his own restaurant, Dish.

Anthony said the highlight of his father’s career had been when he was personally praised by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey when working at O Bar and Grill in 2009.

“He came home and said to me ‘this was one of the biggest highlights of my life’,” Anthony said. “He had a big smile on his face when he said it too.
