DoorDash slashes commissions by 50 percent for restaurants in Australia

DoorDash has slashed commissions for its local restaurant partners with five or fewer locations by 50 per cent on both the DoorDash and Caviar platforms.

“Restaurant fees are necessary to keep Dasher and Courier earnings high and support all of the services restaurants and consumers need,” the food delivery company stated. “But that doesn’t mean we’re not prepared to do our part in this acute moment of need to truly come together.”

The commission cut program will remain in place until the end of May and is set to benefit more than 150,000 local restaurants in Australia, the US and Canada. DoorDash estimates this relief program will cost up to US$100 million.

This announcement follows DoorDash’s other Covid-19 relief programs that include financial assistance for drivers, no-contact options, no commission fees on pickup orders and US$20 million in merchant marketing programs.
