Work takes off on airport hotel plans

Two Melbourne-based companies are developing a design for a proposed eight-storey hotel at the Geraldton Airport.

Recently, Saraceno Group and APDD visited the proposed site where they are hoping to develop more than 11,000 square metres of land.

The hotel would include more than 170 double bedrooms, a large restaurant and a ballroom.

The city's CEO, Tony Brun, says once the design is submitted to council, it is more than likely the proposal would be approved.

"There's already planning guidelines that are in place, so as long as their development is consistent in what's the approved planning guidelines, it's basically deemed approved pending any assessment process that is done by our planning internally," he said.

"So they indicated very strong interest, they have not wavered in any way.

"If anything, they left Geraldton more convinced that that was the right decision to select it as the right place for their hotel."

The city expects the developers to indicate when they will begin building within the next three to six months.
