Woman barely survives savage attack at a luxury Sydney hotel

An arrest warrant has been issued for a Sydney man who posted the words “Game Over” on social media along with two images of a luxury hotel where a severely injured woman was found on Tuesday.

At 11pm that night, emergency services were called to the Primus Hotel in Pitt Street where they found a woman unconscious in the bed, suffering from injuries consistent with being hit with a hammer repeatedly.

Acting NSW Police Superintendent Paul Dunstan said, "She had sustained serious injuries to her face and head.

"Located inside the room was also what police will describe as a small sledgehammer."

The following evening NSW Police launched a manhunt for 41 year old Matthew Donaldson.

None of the posted images showed signs of an assault, however in social comments Mr Donaldson replied to someone saying he had "lost" in a game of "life or death".

A friend asked, "What game were you playing?"

"Life or death, I lost," Mr Donaldson replied.

A spokesperson said Mr Donaldson is thought to be carrying a firearm and is believed to be in the Blue Mountains area.

Donaldson is  described as Caucasian in appearance, approximately 182cm tall, with a solid build and light brown hair.

The woman remains in a serious condition and had also sustained bruising to her abdomen.

She is currently being treated at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Camperdown.
