MP fined after being knocked unconscious outside QLD pub

Exclusive footage obtained by The Courier-Mail shows the moment a Labor MP was knocked unconscious at Townsville’s Mad Cow Tavern while celebrating his birthday.

Mundingburra MP Les Walker, shoved a pub goer after he was given a “nipple cripple” by the man. Moments later the man’s friend knocked the MP unconscious.

Following the incident Mr Walker and the two other men were handed a public nuisance fine.

They are also banned from the town’s nightclub district.

The incident which was witnessed by his wife, has left Mr Walker “struggling”.

“It’s been two months (and) I’ve got no memory of it,” an emotional Mr Walker said yesterday.

“I’m struggling. I’m sorry, I just can’t remember it. It was a pretty bad concussion.

“It’s affected my whole family.”

Mr Walker said he didn’t know who the men are and he had not been shown footage by the police.

“I could never make a decision on what to do because I can’t make a statement without a memory,” he said.

“It’s just been tormenting. I don’t know who they are. They know who I am. And I don’t if I’m going to bump into them or if I have spoken to them.

“I just don’t know anything about them. I just don’t know why these people came near me. Or who they are.”

Premier Anastacia Palaszczuk was not happy with this incident and said she expected a higher standard from her MP’s

“He’s very apologetic. He’s embarrassed,” she said.
