Accor’s hotels recruiting 1000 workers

A massive recruitment drive is currently underway as hotel giant Accor works towards rebuilding its workforce following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Paris-based Accor, which owns hotels such as Mantra, Sofitel, Mercure and Peppers is recruiting over 1000 workers for its 400 hotels in Australia and New Zealand. These positions include fully paid internships with travel allowances and other benefits.

Simon McGrath, Accor Pacific chief executive, said the Group was recruiting for staff at most of its venues across the region.

“This is a rapidly returning sector,” said Mr McGrath. “The hospitality industry has a certain future and our guests are telling us they feel confident about travelling again.”

Accor has launched an internship program which would see about 100 hospitality students receiving on-the-job training.

“These roles, which are primarily applied for via hospitality, travel and tourism higher education institutions, will be fully paid internships,” he said.

The NSW government’s pilot plan to allow international students to come to Australia in the next six months has been welcomed by the Tourism Accommodation Australia (TAA).

TAA NSW chief executive Michael Johnson, said recovery for the industry was being hampered by lack of staff.

“Hotels particularly are crying out for skilled staff including chefs, cooks and frontline staff such as food and beverage and room attendants,” Mr Johnson said.

“Many can’t open rooms because they don’t have the staff to service them. Others have their restaurants closed on certain days.”
