Queenscliff restaurant to issue warning letter to toxic customers

The owner of a Queenscliff restaurant on Victoria’s Bellarine peninsula, is fed up with the abuse he and his staff are receiving form “toxic” patrons when asking for ID.

Barry Iddles, owner of 360Q said his staff were having to deal with abuse from around 10 patrons a week upon checking ID before entry.

“We have already suffered enough through this pandemic, I don’t need my team to be given a hard time,” he said.

To combat the abuse, Iddles will hand offenders a warning letter asking them to calm down and reconsider their actions, which has included swearing and “going ballistic” at a 20-year-old staff member.

“I’ve written a letter to customers asking them to please respect our team,” he said.

“People need to understand this is a government requirement, and that their outbursts are totally unwarranted.”

Iddles announced his call for respect on social media pages and has received overwhelming support from the community.

One Facebook commentor wrote, ‘These people who try to break the rules and who are putting our part of the state and other areas of regional Victoria at risk are selfish and have no place in our community at the moment’.

‘Keep up the great work, it’s so important to keep our community safe’, another wrote.

Under Victorian Covid rules, any venue found breaching the coronavirus restrictions could receive a fine of $10,000.
