Arsonist causes $250k damage after setting WA café alight
The new owner of the Strand Lakeside Café in Byford WA is devastated after an arsonist set his new business alight.
Police are now searching for the criminal, after he broke into the restaurant just before midnight on Saturday and used petrol to start the fire, causing a damage bill close to $250,000.
CCTV footage shows a man, whose face was hidden with a hooded jumper, staking out the Strand Lakeside Café before breaking in.
A minute later the restaurant was set alight.
The business was bought by Sam Sing two just months ago.
The father of two said “it was my dream” to own the business, telling 7NEWS “I'm feeling so bad.
“As normal I left around 9.45pm, then suddenly got a phone call from security and this happened.”
Mr Sing said the restaurant was locked before he left.
No one was injured in the blaze.
