Hotel island paradise coming to the Gold Coast

Developer Tim Gurner has plans for a $1.25 billion project on the Gold Coast, designed to make residents feel like they are on their own private island.

The project, named La Pelago, was designed by Queensland firm Warren and Mahoney with landscape architecture designed by international firm SWA.

The architectural firm will integrate a tropical theme into each apartment, hotel room and amenities giving people the feeling they have been transported to a private island.

Mr Gurner said he had been planning this project for years and is yet to give too much away other than there was a focus on urban regeneration.

Gurner submitted plans to council for four towers overlooking the canal-facing Budds Beach at Surfers Paradise.

“We’ve been fortunate to ride a significant upswing in luxury sales across our projects like St Moritz and Victoria & Vine in Melbourne, and large-format place-marking sites like FV in Brisbane,” Gurner said.

“La Pelago is the next evolution in this journey.”

The four towers will range from 29 to 57 levels with between 95 to 350 residences on offer in each building. There will also be 200 hotel rooms and 5500sqm of retail, commercial and conferencing amenity.

Design principal at Warren and Mahoney, Barrington Gohns said the design principles will pay respect to a natural island experience and will integrate pools, white finish, timber, and glass in its form.

Each island will have a bespoke feel.

A five-star hotel provider has been sought via an international campaign, with an announcement to be made in the coming months.

Gurner has hinted that the provider will be a new name in the Australian market.
