NSW Premier wants Australia to “re-join the world” without hotel quarantine

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet has discussed the future of travel with Sky News Australia.

Perrottet stated that if Australia wants to open up the country and “re-join the world”, a system with hotel quarantine simply won’t work.

Mr Perrottet spoke with Sky News host Sharri Markson, saying his government was “looking at this at the moment.”

NSW Deputy leader Stuart Ayres is set to present a paper on the matter to the government’s sub-committee shortly.

“We do need to move away from the hotel quarantine system, it doesn’t make much sense as the Prime Minister has said, that if you’re double vaccinated and you’re a returning Australian that you need to be up in a hotel for two weeks,” Mr Perrottet said.

“If we can move that date forward from towards the back end of the year into November or earlier, I think that’s going to make a lot more sense.

“We’re a global city, we want to re-join the world, we want to open up our country and the best way to do that is not have a situation where people are stuck in a hotel for two weeks, it just won’t work.”
