Justin Hemmes to open several venues to revive Sydney’s nightlife and bring back the boogie

Justin Hemmes has revealed his plans revive Sydney’s nightlife, revealing he purchased six new venues just before the state went into its 16-week lockdown.

The 49-year-old spoke to The Sunday Telegraph, revealing that he will soon open Rozelle's 3 Weeds and The Alex in Alexandria.

“We kept all our construction jobs going during lockdown,' he said. “We've got three, no, four new venues opening soon.

“Actually there's more, we've been supercharged for about a month now.”

Hemmes, also has plans to bring dancing back to the city.

“Just before our last lockdown we had the clubs trading at full tilt and I'd never seen so much joy to be dancing,” he said.

“I think there will be a huge revival on dance floors,” he added. “Dancing is tribal. It's innate in our DNA makeup.”

Hemmes has also recently purchased the iconic Byron Bay bar Cheeky Monkey's for $13.5million.

With a property portfolio including Bondi's Royal Hotel, the Beresford Hotel in Surry Hills and the Queen Victoria Hotel in Enmore, Hemmes’ family fortune is around $1.06 billion.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald in August, Hemmes wants to open a branch of his Italian restaurant Totti’s in Byron, bringing 'a slice of Bondi to Byron Bay', with the launch expected to take place in 2022.
