A disturbing photo has emerged of a blood-stained wall inside a Sydney pub where a 20-year-old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted.

Investigations are continuing after the alleged assault in a female toilet at the Golden Sheaf hotel last Wednesday.

A 23-year-old man was arrested and questioned by police but was then released without charge.

An image that appears to be bloody handprints smeared on a wall was sent to 2GB breakfast presenter Ben Fordham.

Forensic testing of the blood will determine if it is from the woman who was allegedly assaulted.

A spokeswoman said, “A crime scene was established and examined by specialist forensic police.

“A 23-year-old man, who had been detained by security, was arrested and taken to Waverley Police Station. He was later released pending further inquiries.

“Officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command have commenced an investigation into the incident, which remains ongoing.”

The pub took to social media, confirming in a Facebook post that police had attended the venue on Wednesday night.

“We can confirm that NSW Police attended the Golden Sheaf last night in response to an incident that allegedly occurred,” they wrote.

“We are committed to creating the safest possible environment for our guests and staff and we take allegations of this nature extremely seriously.

“We are reviewing our security protocols and procedures to ensure the continued safety for our guests and staff.

“We are currently assisting NSW Police with their enquiries, however, as this is now a police matter, we are unable to comment any further.”
